In the Super Wild Card matchup between the Buffalo Bills and the Pittsburgh Steelers at a snowy Highmark Stadium, the Bills emerged victorious with a 31-17 win, securing their spot in the Divisional Round against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Buffalo Bills play
Quarterback Josh Allen was a standout performer, contributing to the Bills’ success with explosive plays, including a record-breaking 52-yard rushing touchdown. Allen finished the game with 21 completions on 30 attempts, totaling 203 passing yards and three touchdown passes. He also added 74 rushing yards and another touchdown on the ground.
The Buffalo Bills took an early lead after the Steelers’ opening drive resulted in a punt. The offense, operating almost flawlessly, averaged eight yards per play, culminating in a touchdown pass to Dawson Knox that set the tone for the rest of the game.
Buffalo’s defense played a crucial role, forcing three three-and-outs in the first half and capitalizing on two takeaways. Nickel corner Taron Johnson’s forced fumble, recovered by Terrel Bernard, led to a touchdown pass to Dalton Kincaid. Additionally, cornerback Kaiir Elam’s interception in the end zone thwarted the Steelers’ promising drive, allowing the Bills to maintain control.
Despite the Bills’ injuries on the defensive end, particularly losing middle linebacker Terrel Bernard, who played a pivotal role in their top-five defense, the team remained resilient. Allen’s remarkable play, including a crucial third-down conversion to Stefon Diggs, kept the offense moving. Even though they couldn’t convert on third-and-12, a 45-yard field goal by Tyler Bass extended the lead.
Pittsburgh managed a 12-play touchdown drive, narrowing the gap, but Allen continued to showcase his prowess, connecting with Khalil Shakir for a touchdown. The Bills’ defense stepped up when needed, denying the Steelers on a fourth-and-3 attempt.
Despite missing several starters, the Bills secured their place in the Divisional Round against the Kansas City Chiefs, scheduled for next Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
