Mexican actor and singer Adan Canto, renowned for his roles in X-Men: Days of Future Past and Agent Game, as well as his recent appearance in the TV series The Cleaning Lady, passed away on Monday at the age of 42. His publicist, Jennifer Allen, revealed that Canto succumbed to appendiceal cancer, a battle he chose to keep private. Allen expressed, “Adan had a depth of spirit that few truly knew. Those who glimpsed it were changed forever. He will be greatly missed by so many.”
Born on December 5, 1981, in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, Mexico, Adan Canto grew up in Del Rio, Texas. He initially pursued a career in music, contributing songs to various Mexican TV shows and films. His theatrical journey began with an adaptation of Pedro Almodóvar’s All About My Mother, and he made his television debut in Estado de Gracia in 2009. Canto’s American debut came in 2013 with Kevin Williamson’s crime thriller series The Following.
Notable roles in Designated Survivor, Narcos, and X-Men: Days of Future Past solidified Canto’s reputation in the entertainment industry. In 2013, he established his production company, Canto House Pictures. Canto was currently playing Armand Morales in Fox’s The Cleaning Lady, with the show filming its third season. Despite his illness, he had hoped to rejoin the production later in the season.
Warner Bros Television and Fox Entertainment released a joint statement mourning the loss of Canto, acknowledging his exceptional talent and the impact he made on screen. Canto is survived by his wife Stephanie Ann Canto and their two children, Roman Alder and Eve Josephine.
