Red Devils To Go Head-To-Head With Barca In Champions League Final GameFeatured, Sports & Recreation Tuesday, May 24th, 2011
Manchester United beat Schalke 4-1 at London’s Wembley Stadium, with an aggregate score of 6-1 which will see the English Premier League team go head to head with Barcelona on May 28th when the final game of the Champions League will be held at Wembley.
Wednesday night’s match between the Devils and Schalke saw about 4000 German fans and 70,000 Man Utd fans (including Barcelona coach “Pep” Josep Guardiola) pack the Old Trafford stadium in what seemed to be an almost obvious win for the Devils in the semi-final leg of the UEFA Champions League.
Notably missing on-pitch were Man-United’s Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs, Javier “Chicarito” Hernandez and Michael Carrick, with Patrice Evra making an appearance for a mere 30 minutes. However, the stars of the night were goalie Edwin van der Sar, Antonio Valencia, wingman Nani and Dimitar Berbatov who proved forces to reckon with.
The first half saw Valencia and Gibson score 2 goals within the first 31 minutes with an opposing goal from Schalke midfielder Jose Manuel Jurado 4 minutes later.
Anderson’s first goal came in the 72nd minute leaving the Reds 3-1 against the Germans; only for Anderson to score a second goal just 4 minutes later after a commendable pass from Berbatov.
This season’s final will be the Devil’s 3rd final game in the league for 4 years after the 2008 and 2009 spectacles, whereby the former was victorious for Ferguson but the latter saw him beaten 2-0 against Barcelona.
