Miley Cyrus takes a puff onstage at MTV European Music AwardsEntertainment, Featured Tuesday, November 12th, 2013
Miley Cyrus made the headlines again by lighting up what MTV News claims was a marijuana joint at the MTV European Music Awards held in Amsterdam last Sunday. She took the daring puff immediately after accepting the award for Best Music Video for her hit song ‘Wrecking Ball’.
Cyrus has also been quoted saying “I couldn’t fit this award in my bag but I did find this, so thank you guys very much,” as she took what seemed to be a joint out of her purse and took a puff as her fans cheered her on. According to the Deadline the footage of Cyrus smoking was edited out when the EMAs were aired in the US.
The pop star’s representatives are yet to comment on whether what she smoked was actually marijuana, although the network’s website carried the incriminating headline ‘Miley Smokes Weed Onstage’. Even though marijuana is not legal in the Netherlands, small amounts are freely available for purchase at most cafes and smokers are not prosecuted for possessing small amounts.
The space-themed EMAs at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome kicked off with a silver spandex suit clad Miley singing ‘We can’t stop’. It was yet another eyebrow raising performance with the crowd being treated to a lot of her signature twerking. There was also a repeat performance of the ‘sticking tongue out’ look that she went for with gusto this August at MTV’s Video Music Awards in Brooklyn.
This is reportedly not the first time that Cyrus has openly linked herself with marijuana usage. Her webpage www.mileycyrus.com has an animated puffing cigarette with a smiley-faced marijuana leaf on it. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone she also goes on to state: “I think weed is the best drug on earth. Hollywood is a coke town, but weed is so much better.”
Apart from Miley’s win for her video ‘Wrecking Ball’ the EMAs also made the day for Bruno Mars who won the Best Song award for ‘Locked Out of Heaven’, Katy Perry for Best Female Artist, and Eminem who won in both the best hip-hop and global icon categories.
