Online retail giant Amazon is expected to release Kindle Fire 2 on September 6 at a press conference scheduled to take place in Santa Monica, California. It is also said that Kindle Fire 2 will most likely be accompanied by a much more improved Kindle Touch. A report appearing in the Wall Street Journal seemed to indicate that the second Fire version will be backed by advertising as a strategy to press the costs down. The report cited people involved in the tablet’s design, saying it will form part of a series of goods lined up for the market to coincide with the forthcoming holiday season.
Amazon released a statement earlier, saying they are grateful to the whooping millions of customers who have thrown their weight behind the Kindle Fire to make it the most successful launch in the company’s history. Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s founder and CEO, said 2012 has been a fantastic year for digital products. Bezos confirmed that all the top 10 sellers on the Amazon website are just digital products. He revealed that the Kindle Fire is sold out, adding that this is only opening the way for better products in coming days.
A few details have emerged concerning the yet to be announced Kindle Fire 2. There are indications that the screen resolution will be increased to 1280 x 800, up from 1024 x 600. This large format has already been seen in the market with notable examples being Nexus 7 by Google. Some experts have observed that this size change is equivalent to a 67 per cent increase, quite significant. This will easily allow HD videos (up to 720p) to show on the likes of Kindle Fire 2.
The new Fire will probably be much thinner, with more metal especially in the core construction. Other inclusions expected to appear include a GPS chip for location plus a camera that will support Skype. Reuters news agency indicated that the new Kindle from Amazon will feature mapping offerings through a Nokia Oyj tie-up, a sure threat for Google’s mapping service?
